The Pearl Motel Announce the Release of Their First Recording(Oct. 2013) Genre-defying Toronto band, The Pearl Motel, are pleased to announce the independent release of their first recording, a 6-song mini album entitled Storm Sessions. You are cordially invited to join them for a release party on Friday October 11th at hot live music hangout Gate 403 (403 Roncesvalles Ave. just south of Howard Park).
Recorded “live off the floor” with minimal overdubs by renowned sound engineer Brenndan McGuire (Feist, Sloan, Sam Roberts), Storm Sessions is a collection of original songs that reflect the band’s live sound and many of their eclectic musical styles while featuring a refined instrumental interplay that underscores the band’s signature vocal harmonies. Nowhere is that more evident than on lead single Beautiful Disaster. A gorgeous mid-tempo anthem to all that’s great and terrible about love gone bad, the song is a perfect snapshot of what The Pearl Motel does best. Rising and falling on a lush instrumental bed that pays homage to some of the great pop bands of the past, Beautiful Disaster builds to a refrain that will make you think they brought in a choir and will have you singing its addictive melody long after the song is over. Go ahead. Stream Beautiful Disaster right here. Right now! Regular fixtures on the Toronto club scene, The Pearl Motel shift gears easily from pop to swing to country to blues - and almost everything in between. Comprised of singer/songwriter/guitarist Chris Cook, vocalist and muse Nathalie Cook, pianist/keyboard whiz Eric Terreau and all supported by the ace rhythm section of Lorenzo Brunello (bass) and J. Michael Wang (cocktail drums, percussion and vocals), The Pearl Motel have become known for their energetic live sets that can veer from hearing-a-pin-drop balladry to raucous jump blues, sometimes in the same tune. With songs that glide from tight arrangements to flowing improvisation, The Pearl Motel is guaranteed to keep you on your toes, even while they’re tapping. The Pearl Motel will be releasing each song from Storm Sessions for streaming and download in the coming days and weeks. Stay tuned for details. |
The Pearl Motel is Heading East(February 2014) Mainstays of Toronto’s west end and downtown live music scene, The Pearl Motel is now bravely taking its act east - all the way to the far side of the Don Valley.
In what we hope will be the beginning of a beautiful friendship, The Pearl Motel has booked 2 upcoming gigs, on Sunday February 23rd and Sunday March 30th, at one of the Danforth’s hippest live music establishments, Relish Bar and Grill. Located at 2152 Danforth Ave. 1 block east of Woodbine (at Cedarvale), Relish has become known for its wonderful atmosphere and relentless support of great live music. The Pearl Motel is excited to bring our genre-defying brand of (mostly) original music to our fans in the east end. But there’s more to it than that. It’s an opportunity to catch us in a very different setting than what you’ve become used to - brunch. That’s right, on February 23rd, you can enjoy a tasty Relish brunch accompanied by the sophisticated song stylings of the Pearl Motel between 11am and 2pm. Who knew we could emerge in the cold light of day? This will be a great chance to catch us playing in a more intimate manner than you would normally dig at a Friday night rave-up or Saturday night shindig. We’ll be paring back the volume and upping the cool (if that’s even possible) with a selection of songs that will help you enjoy some delicious eats or provide you with just the right ambiance for nursing that badly needed hangover caesar. So, join us at Relish Bar and Grill on Sunday February 23rd starting at 11am. And then come back Sunday night, March 30th from 7 - 8:30pm for a quick hit to help you get ready for Monday. We can’t wait to go east. Hope you’ll come along for the ride. |
